Henderson County, Illinois
Help us protect Henderson County’s natural areas, educate our community, and preserve outdoorsmen traditions for future generations.
Friends of Henderson County Wildlife (FOHCWL) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to educating the public about Henderson County, Illinois’ exceptional natural resources. We work to benefit wildlife and promote the recreational outdoor activities that make our community special, all in accordance with the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation.
Our mission is driven by three core objectives: Education, Conservation, and Outdoorsmen Heritage — together, we call them our E.C.O. Goals. Every dollar raised stays local, funding projects and programs that directly impact Henderson County.
Founded in 2020 in loving memory of Don “Butch” and Beverly Brent, lifelong Henderson County residents who treasured our natural resources and inspired generations to enjoy the outdoors.
Memberships, donations, and fundraising activities directly support local education programs, habitat projects, youth outreach, and hands-on conservation efforts. There are no paid staff—only committed volunteers protecting Henderson County’s natural resources.
FOHCWL’s purpose is simple but powerful — to educate the public about Henderson County’s rich natural resources, support wildlife conservation, and preserve the outdoorsmen traditions that connect generations.
Promoting hunter, firearm, and boating safety while teaching conservation practices and the value of preserving outdoorsmen heritage.
Partnering with public lands, private landowners, volunteers, and student ambassadors to restore habitat, improve biodiversity, and enhance wildlife opportunities across Henderson County.
Introducing people of all ages to outdoor activities and encouraging experienced outdoorsmen to mentor new hunters, anglers, and conservationists while honoring those who have left a legacy.
Volunteer, mentor, or join an upcoming project — there are many ways to help us make a difference.
Join tree plantings, food-plot installations, or wood duck box builds. We partner with state parks and private landowners to boost habitat and biodiversity.
Help pass on hunting, fishing, and outdoor skills — or be paired with a local mentor to get started. All ages welcome.
From safety classes and field days to a yearly scholarship and student ambassador roles, we invest in future conservation leaders.
Henderson County is home to more than 6,000 acres of public conservation land and nearly 200,000 acres of private farmland along the Mississippi River. FOHCWL works with partners and volunteers to enhance these lands through tree planting, food plots, and wood duck box installations.
Our generous sponsors make it possible to host free community events, fund conservation projects, and support education outreach. Their commitment ensures outdoor opportunities remain accessible to all.
